Description:

A few kilometers from Linguaglossa, a charming village on the northern side of Etna, along the road “MareNeveFuoco”, you reach a complex of 7 eruptive cones “bottoniera”: the “Monti Sartorius”. Along a path inside a beautiful birch forest, the path, which is of great interest both from the geological and botanical point of view, rich in endemic species, volcanic bombs of considerable size and woods dominated by birches (birch trees aetnensis)It will lead us to the base of the volcanic cones. Of exceptional geological interest is the impressive lava flow of 1865 that gave rise to these side craters, so called in honor and memory of the scholar Sartorius von Waltershausen, It was among the first to report cartographically the most significant eruptions of Etna, characterized by the alignment of seven eruptive cones (“a bottoniera “). The route follows a ring path, presenting a height difference of about 150m, the highest cone of the 7 existing.

At the end of the trek, we will move to the “Snow Cave”, an interesting lava tunnel of historical and cultural importance for Sicily.
